Why we left the ‘Coolest Jobs Ever’ to follow our passion: The Island BFF’s Behind Bespoke Destination Events

6 months ago this week, after close to five years, we both said sayonara to the corporate world and jumped headfirst into the world of entrepreneurship and Boutique Wedding + Special Event Design on the magical island of Maui - Hawaii.

We were both very fortunate to have had a solid foundation built around our careers in hospitality. We were always given tremendous opportunities to grow and of course, without their loyal support, wouldn’t have ever met!

Eek - we can't even fathom the thought!

Many would consider our last positions in the career world on Maui, Hawaii an absolute dream! Seeing luxury style weddings & events come to fruition day in and out - it all appeared to be the glamorous life. Our mainland friends called it the ‘coolest job ever’.

But as amazing and challenging as it was,
we both couldn’t ignore our passions yearning for more!

Thoughts of how could we stay on Maui ‘like for ever’ AND still do what we love – in Natalie’s words – “making pretty things for nice people”? After many oceanfront sunset croquet chats, cocktails in hand, it was decided. 

We would pursue the terrifying and amazing feeling, 

dare to fail miserably, 

and pack it all up to do what we love, 

so ultimately, 

we could inspire the hearts of others.

In turn, Bespoke Destination Events was born in early 2015 and to quote Kid President “{We’re} not in a party. {WE} ARE A PARTY! Everywhere {we} go is a party!”

Before we get to all the beautiful stories we have to share,
we thought we would introduce ourselves ...

We’re Nat n' Ash: co-founders and owners of Bespoke Destination Events. We're not your typical island party coordinator, Maui wedding planner, or Hawaii event designer duo.

Our goal is to create and inspire authentic-bespoke-celebrations,
that kind of party. The kind of party that has us planning until 5am with sleep deprivation for days on end. The kind of party where we see your face and know it was all worth it. The kind of party that takes months to plan, hours to set up, minutes to breakdown, but a lifetime to forget. The kind of party that makes us proud. The kind of party that makes us remember that there is absolutely nothing else we’d rather do then create bespoke moments and celebrations especially for you. Yeah, that kind of party.

A typical day in the BDE life is Ashley making sure Natalie shows up on time while Natalie keeps Ashley from worrying too much. As "meant to be" Island BFF’s, we both had a serendipitous encounter with Maui the moment our feet touched the ground (which was on the same day unbeknownst to us). A forever feeling that needed to be answered and is now becoming reality and our decision to jump couldn't be more rewarding.

But enough about us – we can’t wait to meet you – our newest Bespoke BFF! With this blog, we’ll share our perspective on the pretty. Event Inspiration, Wedding DIY’s, and Brilliant Style all from our little corner of the world on Maui.

Our company style is dashed with a bit of fun, a splash of whimsy, and a dose of comfortable elegance! Hey we sure do take our events seriously but certainly not ourselves.
